British-Nigerian actress, Cynthia Erivo is on a roll this year, from given an acclaimed performance in Bad Times at the El Royale to landing the lead role in the upcoming Harriet Tubman biopic. Now, she's revealed that her big acting dream is to one day play the iconic Serena Williams.

Clearly, the talented actress has a penchant for playing strong black women on-screen, as she rose to prominence after playing Celie in Broadway revival of The Colour Purple — a role which landed her a Tony, a Grammy and an Emmy all in the space of one year.

Speaking to Vogue about wanting to play Serena, Erivo said:

There’s this fiery, determined champion, and then there’s this really gorgeous, almost Marilyn Monroe–esque siren—something really quite ethereal and some sort of fictional superhero. I think I’d really enjoy being able to just go for it, to be honest.

You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't agree that Serena Williams is a legendary tennis player – unless they're racist and misogynistic. If there's ever been a more appropriate time to celebrate the amazing sportswoman, it should be now.

Her docu-series with HBO gave us insight into how amazing her story is, and how hard she works. Her story would be an amazing one to tell, and we're rooting for Erivo to play this role. One of our favourite people playing another one of our faves? Yes, please!
